Design Idea is a boutique firm owned by Tina Howland. Tina specializes in lead design, front-end web development and art direction and management of outside teams. Almost 20 years in the business includes work for large agencies and top studios, however the focus at Design Idea is on small, personal and agile teams. While some projects are handled by Tina alone and she is available for off-site art direction, other projects require a small group of specialized designers, copywriters, database and web developers which are pulled together depending on the specific needs of the client.
Tina also teaches Web Design and Typography in the Communication Arts & Graphic Design Program at Mt. San Antonio College.
Her career began as an Illustrator after graduating from Otis College of Art and Design with a BFA majoring in Illustration. Early work included projects for Sam Goody, Hollywood Athletic Club and Universal Studios. Her iconic King Kong can still be seen hanging off buildings at Universal City Walk.
Agency work includes the entertainment powerhouse DNA Studio, where she specialized in creating websites for the music, television, and movie industries. At Vendare Media she was a finalist in the Caples International Award Competition, recognizing Excellence in Direct Marketing Creatives. There, she worked as lead designer on a wide variety of projects including InFocus which was promoted as the first integrated direct marketing targeting system.
Tina's extensive portfolio includes projects for Vanity Magazine, Elektra Records, Target, McDonalds, Disney, Guthy-Renker, Dancing with The Stars, Coca-Cola, Universal Studios, Celebrity Shopping Network, FOX, Proactiv, and Sprint, along with many individual entertainers, management teams and production companies.
